Neutral matching
Our AI Guide, directory search, and lawyer matching features rank attorneys by relevance to your matter (practice area, location, published credentials, ratings, and similar public signals). Subscription tier and payment amount are never ranking inputs.
Attorneys with ethics signals such as public discipline on file, potential issue, or non-compliant (including published Iowa OPR sanctions and restricted license statuses we surface) are sorted to the bottom of directory and Guide result lists — they remain visible for transparency, but they do not appear ahead of compliant listings. They are excluded from Featured Attorneys on the homepage (including admin spotlight slots).
Advertising subscriptions
Attorneys may purchase an optional Enhanced listing subscription. Enhanced is an advertising product: it unlocks richer profile tools (published fees, languages, virtual consultation flag, contact inbox, review responses, and an external booking link). It does not move a profile higher in search results, map pins, or Guide recommendations.
Free listings remain in the directory with core public data from licensed and public sources.
Homepage spotlight and Founding Member honorific
The homepage Featured Attorneys section may include curated spotlight slots for select profiles, followed by top-rated attorneys to fill remaining space. Spotlight placement is an editorial highlight — not a quality endorsement, referral, or search-ranking boost.
We may grant a selective Founding Member honorific to attorneys who supported the platform during early development. Founding Member is early-supporter recognition only; it does not mean the attorney owns or operates RateIowaLawyers.com. Founding Member status does not affect directory search order, map ordering, or AI Guide matching.
Admin-granted partner or showcase labels and complimentary Enhanced tools are separate from Stripe billing. Like paid Enhanced listings, they do not change search or match rank.
Sponsored directory slots
Premium subscribers may appear in clearly labeled Sponsored blocks on city and practice landing pages when slots are offered in that market. Sponsored placement is capped attorney-paid advertising — not a recommendation, referral, or search-ranking boost. Organic directory sort and AI Guide matching ignore subscription tier and sponsorship.
Pro (Enhanced listing) tools — outcome responses, published fees, inbox, review replies — live on your profile and do not require a sponsored slot. See directory features for attorneys for how listing, claim, and sponsorship differ.
No lead resale
When you contact a lawyer through our forms, your message goes to that attorney only. We do not auction, bundle, or resell intake leads to multiple firms.
Verified reviews
Community reviews may be marked verified when tied to a documented platform contact submission. Verified status reflects attestation workflow, not a quality score or ranking boost purchased by the attorney.
Iowa advertising ethics
Attorneys are responsible for compliance with the Iowa Rules of Professional Conduct, including Rule 32:7.2 (advertising). Paid Enhanced listings are structured as advertising, not referral fees. See also our Terms of Service.
