Evidence classes
- Official records — OPR discipline, sanctions, disqualification orders, appellate misconduct findings, UPL and Judicial Qualifications actions. These may use ethics-class language and are cited to the source.
- Docket-derived facts and patterns — precise factual narrative only (case numbers, dates, what the record shows). We do not label same-side co-counsel as ethics issues.
- Independent user reports — labeled first-person reviews; corroborated patterns may enter a notification pipeline.
- Attestations — attorney self-reports, labeled as such.
Judicial patterns (case-mix only)
When we discuss judicial outcomes, we use case-mix-adjusted residuals (observed minus the same case-type baseline) — never raw reversal rates. Sentencing patterns are not published unless offense-class and criminal-history controls exist. Docket-derived pattern detections stay internal until notification protocol and editorial gates complete; ethics-class public language comes only from official records.
Attorney response
High-confidence patterns that are not official records go through a bar-registered notification window before any unrebutted publication. Attorneys may attest consent/compliance, dispute facts, or explain that the matters are unrelated. We do not publish unrebutted pattern narratives without that protocol.
Corrections SLA
Report factual errors via Report an issue. Operational SLA (America/Chicago business days):
- Acknowledge within 2 business days of a clear, actionable correction report.
- Correct or explain sourced factual mistakes within 10 business days when the fix is in our control (directory data we maintain).
- Material corrections are noted on the affected page when appropriate. Official-record text follows the issuing authority — we update citations when the authority updates.
Reporting paths
- Lawyer / prosecutor conduct → Iowa Office of Professional Regulation (complaint assistant helps you prepare; you file).
- Judicial conduct → Commission on Judicial Qualifications (not OPR).
- Anonymized aggregates: outcome track record.
Iowa Rule of Professional Conduct 32:8.3 requires lawyers who know of another lawyer's violation raising a substantial question of honesty, trustworthiness, or fitness to inform the appropriate professional authority.
